In a time when we rightfully focus not only on the academic development of our students, but also their social and emotional wellbeing, it seems absolutely pivotal that we directly ask them what they fear. In the context of a middle school Leadership Soapbox club run in partnership with Mr. Downes, social studies innovator, we asked our students: What do you fear when you go to sleep? The responses, given both of us were native New Yorkers who had grown up on city streets, were eye opening and truly upsetting.
